Transmission Protocol work (ETSI)

The standardisation of the MSD transmission is currently followed by the ETSI – MSG and the 3GPP standardisation bodies.

ETSI-MSG in its meeting of 2nd of May 2006 decided to endorse the GSME recommendation, which have been described in section 3.2 of this document. GSME recommended that the preferred solution for eCall MSD transmission should be based on an in-band modem/signalling application in the basis that it would ensure a full European operation in the shortest term.

ETSI-MSG requested 3GPP to consider the standardisation of the eCall in-band modem protocol, because eCall is expected to be based on open standards.

In September 2006 a work item for the standardisation of eCall in-band modem was approved by 3GPP SA4, the system architecture working group where the technical work was carried out.
