Directives, Communications & Recommendations

The European Commission plays an active role in the discussion of the implementation of new Information and Communication Technologies for safe and intelligent vehicles, as it predicts new technologies will play a big part in reaching its goal of reducing road fatalities by 50% by 2010.

One European Commission initiative recognises the need for a standardised solution for reporting road accidents within the EU. This is necessary because of modern society’s mobility and the fact that people travelling in the various Member States do not always know what emergency number to call.
